A Better Forecast
We've developed a better way to forecast winds on San Francisco Bay by using a model that actually sees the mountains, gaps, and islands that make the Bay such a challenging place to sail.
Welcome to Sail Tactics
SailTactics.com is home to the highest-resolution wind forecasts in the West (and the world for that matter). We've figured out a better way to forecast the winds in the San Francisco Bay to help you sail faster.
Why use Sail Tactics forecasts? Already Convinced? Sign up now.
We run “just-in-time” forecasts every morning to get you the most accurate forecast possible. Using the morning Oakland weather balloon, we resolve marine layer flows better than anyone else.
Our Subscribers Win
Our subscribers have won nearly every major race of 2014 and 2015 in the Bay. We help you carry the right sails and anticipate wind shifts. In light wind conditions, we help you find the pressure needed to pass your competitors.
We use a state-of-the-art weather forecasting model that knows the surface type (drag from trees, buildings, bridges, etc.), water surface temperature, and the Bay Area's unique terrain.
We have the most resolved forecasts in the world. Other models don’t see the Golden Gate in full-detail or Angel Island at all. We let you know how close you can get to the lee of Angel Island and what to expect in the “Slot”.
We’re Out There With You
We sail the San Francisco Bay multiple times per week to validate and improve our forecasts. Why trust “local” forecasts made by companies in New Zealand or Seattle? Some of our competitors are not even sailors.
We’re continually improving our forecasts and the features we offer. We’re working on high-resolution tide forecasts, an improved mapping interface, and GRIBs that will allow you to do weather routing for the first time ever in San Francisco Bay.
Maps Instead of Points
We make beautiful forecast maps that captivate your imagination and show you where the winds are. Easily see wind speed, direction, and shifts. Other maps just have points. Don't play connect the dots.

The Sail Tactics forecast helped me, as tactician of the American Youth Sailing Force, know how quickly the wind was going to build and how far off shore the pressure gradient was going to extend. This helped us mentally prepare and know what to expect each day before we left the mooring. I have never seen such an accurate and detailed forecast for the San Francisco city front."David Liebenberg, Tactician, American Youth Sailing Force, AC45
